1. What To Wear On Long Haul Flights
Inevitably you will be sitting for a long time in a cramped space with various temperature changes (assuming you are not in first-class). Undoubtedly, long flights have a reputation for sucking the energy right out of you. The key to making this experience a pleasurable one is dressing as comfortably as humanly possible and knowing some tricks of the fashion trade along the way.
- Leggings: Did you know that your body can swell when you fly? Mine definitely does. This means wearing tight clothing can become super uncomfortable. Instead, go with a loose-fitting bottom that you can feel comfortable in for hours on end, like leggings. Just make sure that you buy the right size so that they aren’t super tight. Coupled with that, be sure to wear loose-fitting tops as well. My personal favorite leggings are from Lululemon. You can barely feel them on while you are wearing them. - Sweatpant Sets: If leggings are still too tight for you, opt for a stylish sweatpant set. I love these sets from Nike. They also fit well if you are tall like me.
- Comfortable Bras: Ladies who wear wired or hooked bras should save those for the suitcase and wear something more comfortable instead. There is nothing worse than having those hooks digging into you and not much you can do about it. Instead, try investing in a wire-free bra to keep your girls in place without sacrificing your comfort.
- Comfy Shoes: I know those 4-inch heels look mighty beautiful, but I promise you that your feet will feel so much better going with more practical shoes like classic sneakers or flats. Along with this, consider getting some compression socks as well to help keep your blood circulation flowing healthily while sitting for long periods of time.

2. What To Wear On Short Flights
These are flights generally less than 3 hours. They usually don’t have layovers either, which is another bonus. It stands to reason why comfort, though still important, isn’t as much of a priority as it is for the longer flights. Ultimately, you have more flexibility to choose style over comfort on these types of flights. This allows you to venture off on your trip the moment you land rather than having to change. Just be sure to dress according to the weather for where you are going!
- Loose Outfits OR Dresses: Remember, even short flights can still make your body swell. The only difference is that you wouldn’t have to deal with it for a long time. This means you can bypass this completely or go ahead and wear a loose outfit to accommodate. Or, since you will not need to adjust to get comfortable 1000 times, perhaps a loose dress like the one below would be ideal for both on the flight and as soon as you get off.
- A Cardigan: There is a good chance that you might only have a carry-on instead of full luggage if you are on a short flight. Because of that, a cardigan would be perfect for these situations to gain quick warmth without the bulk. In addition, a cardigan is light and can easily be stored away when you land so you don’t have to wear it around the town before setting in.
- Slippers: Though I still think you should wear practical foot travel attire, feel free to wear your dressy heels on shorter flights without it hurting too much long-term. Now, if you choose to do this, think about bringing a comfy set of slippers on your carry-on so you can switch into them in the air and back again when you land.

Whether it is a long flight or a short one, the most recommended thing you can do when picking out the best travel outfits is to use the art of layering. This is especially true if you are going from a cooler place to a warmer one or vice versa. Layering enabled you to dress up or down to say comfortable before, during, and after your flight.
AVOID TONS OF JEWELRY
Whatever you do in terms of travel attire, avoid wearing excessive metal or bulky jewelry. This can hold you up at the TSA line and could even be viewed as lowkey weapons.
